THE SCIENCE

Formulated on Evidence. Refined by Ritual.

Every ingredient in The Ritual Set was selected for a reason — and the reasons are published. This is the research behind the ritual, explained simply.

THE INGREDIENT INDEX

Every Ingredient, Explained

Nothing in The Ritual Set is incidental. Below is every key active across both steps — why it was selected, and the science and research behind its inclusion. This is our formulation philosophy: fewer ingredients, each with a documented purpose.

Step 1 · The Prepping Mist

Water-based, peptide-rich actives that prepare and rebalance the scalp so everything that follows absorbs where it matters.

01

Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu)

Copper Tripeptide-1

Step 1 · The Prepping MistClinically-Studied Peptide

Why We Chose It

The cornerstone of the Prepping Mist. GHK-Cu is one of the most studied peptides in modern cosmetic science, prized for its affinity with the scalp and follicle environment. We chose it to anchor the ritual at the root — where fullness begins.

The Science

GHK-Cu has been investigated for decades in dermatological research for its role in supporting follicular function, a balanced scalp, and the appearance of stronger, more anchored strands. It is frequently studied alongside established hair-support actives.

Established in cosmetic & dermatological peptide research, incl. Pickart et al.

02

Silk Peptide

Fibroin Oligopeptide-1

Step 1 · The Prepping MistBioavailable Protein

Why We Chose It

Silk has been part of beauty rituals for centuries. Its low-molecular-weight peptides are small enough to bind to hair and scalp, delivering amino acids exactly where they are needed.

The Science

Silk peptides are rich in serine and glycine — amino acids that attract and hold moisture. Applied to the scalp, they support hydration and a smoother, more conditioned surface for the actives that follow.

03

Maca Root

Lepidium meyenii

Step 1 · The Prepping MistAndean Botanical

Why We Chose It

A nutrient-dense root traditionally used to fortify and energize. We include it for its dense profile of micronutrients and amino acids that help nourish the scalp environment.

The Science

Maca root extract is studied for its rich composition of amino acids, minerals and glucosinolates. In scalp care, it is used to support a nourished, balanced foundation for healthy-looking growth.

04

Rice Ferment Complex

Oryza sativa · Saccharomyces · Lactobacillus

Step 1 · The Prepping MistHeritage Ritual, Modernized

Why We Chose It

Fermented rice water is one of the oldest documented hair rituals in the world — used for centuries by the Yao women of Huangluo, famed for their floor-length hair. Fermentation makes its nutrients dramatically more bioavailable.

The Science

Rice water is naturally rich in inositol, amino acids and B vitamins. Fermentation lowers its pH toward that of a healthy scalp and breaks nutrients into smaller, more absorbable forms — supporting softness, strength and shine.

Inositol's affinity for keratin is documented in cosmetic hair research.

05

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3

Step 1 · The Prepping MistClinically-Studied Vitamin

Why We Chose It

A workhorse of evidence-based skincare, included here for the skin you don't see: your scalp. A resilient scalp barrier holds hydration longer and receives actives better.

The Science

Niacinamide is extensively documented for supporting the skin barrier and microcirculation. On the scalp, that translates to a calmer, better-hydrated foundation for the appearance of fuller hair.

06

Rosemary

Rosmarinus officinalis

Across Both StepsCertified Organic

Why We Chose It

The most clinically substantiated botanical in hair care — and the backbone of the ritual. It appears in both steps: as rosemary leaf water in the mist and rosemary leaf oil in the infusion.

The Science

In a published randomized trial, rosemary oil applied for six months was associated with improvements in hair count comparable to 2% minoxidil — with less scalp itching reported.

Panahi et al., Skinmed 2015 — randomized comparative trial vs 2% minoxidil.

07

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Cucurbita pepo

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic · Cold-Pressed

Why We Chose It

Among the most researched botanical oils for the appearance of density. Its phytosterols and zinc make it a natural fit for a scalp-first system.

The Science

In a 24-week randomized, placebo-controlled study, pumpkin seed oil supplementation was associated with a significant increase in hair count versus placebo.

Cho et al., Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2014.

08

Black Cumin Seed Oil

Nigella sativa

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic · Cold-Pressed

Why We Chose It

Treasured across the Middle East for generations — a direct line to the Lebanese rituals that inspired Tawil Beauty. Its active compound, thymoquinone, is one of the most studied molecules in botanical medicine.

The Science

Thymoquinone is documented for its antioxidant and soothing properties. Published cosmetic research on Nigella sativa formulations has reported improvements in the appearance of hair density and reduced shedding.

Rossi et al., 2013 — published trial on Nigella sativa lotion & telogen effluvium.

09

Castor Seed Oil

Ricinus communis

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic · Cold-Pressed

Why We Chose It

A generational staple in scalp oiling traditions worldwide. Its unique ricinoleic acid content gives it a density and cling few oils can match — it stays where you place it and seals what's beneath.

The Science

Castor oil is composed of nearly 90% ricinoleic acid, an unusual fatty acid studied for its soothing and occlusive properties — helping lock hydration and actives against the scalp.

10

Argan Kernel Oil

Argania spinosa

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic

Why We Chose It

The gold standard of beauty oils. We include both the kernel oil and argan sprout cell extract — the modern, lab-refined evolution of the same tree.

The Science

Argan oil is rich in vitamin E and oleic and linoleic acids, documented to support shine, softness and protection against oxidative stress. Argan sprout cell extract is studied for supporting vitality at the root.

11

Jojoba Seed Oil

Simmondsia chinensis

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCold-Pressed

Why We Chose It

Technically not an oil at all, but a liquid wax ester — the closest botanical match to the scalp's own sebum. It helps the entire blend absorb the way skin expects.

The Science

Because jojoba's structure mirrors human sebum, it is studied for balancing the scalp's lipid environment rather than sitting on top of it — supporting comfortable, non-greasy absorption.

12

Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Limnanthes alba

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic · Cold-Pressed

Why We Chose It

The quiet stabilizer of the formula. Meadowfoam is one of the most oxidatively stable plant oils known — it protects the more delicate actives around it and leaves a silk-like finish.

The Science

With over 98% long-chain fatty acids, meadowfoam seed oil resists oxidation far longer than typical oils, helping preserve the potency of the blend while sealing moisture along the hair shaft.

13

Nettle Leaf & Root

Urtica dioica

Step 2 · The Infusion OilTraditional Botanical

Why We Chose It

A centuries-old European hair tonic, included for its mineral density and its long record in traditional scalp care for fuller-looking hair.

The Science

Nettle is rich in silica, minerals and polyphenols, and its root has been studied for modulating 5-alpha-reductase activity — the enzymatic pathway most associated with the appearance of thinning.

14

Red Clover

Trifolium pratense

Across Both StepsFlower Water & Extract

Why We Chose It

A gentle isoflavone-rich botanical that appears in both phases of the ritual — as a flower water in the mist and an extract in the oil.

The Science

Red clover's key isoflavone, biochanin A, has been studied in cosmetic trials for supporting the appearance of denser, healthier-looking hair and a balanced scalp environment.

Biochanin A studied in published cosmetic scalp research.

15

Centella Asiatica

Gotu Kola

Step 2 · The Infusion OilAsian Botanical

Why We Chose It

Known in K-beauty as the great skin-strengthener. We use it for the scalp: a resilient foundation holds hair better.

The Science

Centella's triterpenes (asiaticoside, madecassoside) are extensively documented for supporting collagen synthesis and skin resilience — reinforcing the scalp's structure over time.

16

Vitamin E

Tocopherol

Step 2 · The Infusion OilCertified Organic

Why We Chose It

The formula's antioxidant shield — protecting both the oils in the bottle and the scalp it's applied to.

The Science

Tocopherols defend lipids against oxidative stress. In a published supplementation study, tocotrienol-rich vitamin E was associated with a significant increase in hair number versus placebo over eight months.

Beoy et al., Tropical Life Sciences Research, 2010.

Four Targeted Complexes

We don't believe in long ingredient lists for the sake of it. Every active is grouped into a purposeful complex — each engineered to do a specific job across the two-step ritual.

HOW THE RITUAL WORKS

Backed by Research. Built for Results.

This is not a single formula — it is a two-phase system. Water-based and oil-based actives function in fundamentally different environments. By separating them, each ingredient keeps its stability, potency, and bioavailability, so the system performs as intended.

Prepare the Scalp
Pillar 1

Prepare the Scalp

Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu)

A clinically-studied peptide known for supporting follicular function and a balanced scalp — reinforcing the appearance of stronger, more anchored strands at the root.

Stimulate & Support
Pillar 2

Stimulate & Support

Rosemary + Pumpkin Seed

In a published clinical study, rosemary oil was associated with improvements in hair count over six months, with outcomes comparable to 2% minoxidil. Pumpkin seed oil is among the most substantiated botanical oils for the appearance of density.

Nourish & Seal
Pillar 3

Nourish & Seal

10 Cold-Pressed Botanical Oils

Black cumin, argan, jojoba, castor and more deliver dense, lipid-based nourishment deep into the scalp — sealing in actives rather than leaving them on the surface.

WHY TWO STEPS MATTER

Without preparation, oil sits. After preparation, it permeates.

The scalp must be hydrated to properly absorb. The Prepping Mist opens the door; the Infusion Oil walks through it. Used in sequence, they create a complete environment for healthier-looking, fuller hair.
